3. List out your achievements

Once you know how much you are worth in the market, you need to make your case even stronger. This means listing out all the reasons why you deserve that raise.

Document all achievements

Ideally, you should always document all your achievements so that when you need them, you don’t need to spend hours, or even days, putting things together.

You should create a separate file that contains all your achievements – certifications, awards, congratulatory messages on jobs well done, etc. Also collect information on jobs that you did well.

Therefore, when you go to speak with your boss, you have a well-documented list of achievements that support your request for a raise.

Support your Claims with Data

Never go in without hard evidence that your achievements are real. Make sure you have all the data with regard to the work you have done so that it cannot be contradicted.

Additionally, you should be prepared with market data. This means knowing how much similar jobs to your pay, and how you compare to those salary brackets.

Data also helps you remain focused, impersonal and dispassionate. Having all that information will also help you feel more confident.

Remember though, if you ask for too much, you may end up getting nothing. A reasonable hike in your pay is about 10% to 15% on your current salary. A 50% to a 100% hike very, very rarely happens – companies can’t stretch that much.
